What is a burn?
A
Caused by dry heat (fire/sun/friction)

A
Caused by wet heat (steam/hot liquid)

What is a superficial burn?
A
Reddening of skin, quite painful, affects top layer of skin

What is a partial thickness burn?
A
Reddening with blisters, very painful, affects epidermis and dermis

What is a full thickness burn?
A
Severe blistering with charring, underlying tissue damage, damage to nerve endings, loss of sensation

What is the treatment for an isolated superficial injury?
A
- stop contact with heat source
- cloacal cooking or burn (approx 15 mins under cool running water)
- removed jewellery if possible
- remove clothing around wound if possible
-apply sterile dressing - seek medical treatment

A
30 minutes
