- Edema in the hands and feet
- Anxiety
Eclampsia
Characterized by seizures that occur as a result of hypertension
Supine hypotension syndrome
This condition is caused by compression of the inferior vena cava by the pregnant uterus when the patient lying supine, reducing the amount of blood is returned to the heart
Ectopic pregnancy
When an embryo develops outside of the uterus, most often in a fallopian tube.
Abruptio placenta
The placenta separates prematurely from the wall of the uterus
Placenta pervia
The placenta develops over and covers the cervix

Administer high flow o2
Ensure adequate ventilation
Assess circulation
Transport considerations

Multigravida
A woman who is experienced previous pregnancies
Lightening
The movement into the pelvis by the of the fetus, positioning it for birth
Crowning
When the head of the fetus begins to appear at the vaginal opening
What is it called when a fetus is positioned headfirst in the birth canal?
Cephalic presentation

Presentation
The way in which an infant is born
Vertex presentation
An infant born headfirst
Breech position
An infant born buttocks first
Limb presentation
When a single limb sticks out first
Prolapse of the umbilical cord
Where the cord comes out of the vagina before the fetus
Spina bifida
They develop mental defect in which a portion of the spinal cord and meninges may protrude outside of the vertebrae and possibly outside of the body
