Chambers Of The Heart Flashcards
What are the four chambers of the heart called?
Right atrium
Right ventricle
Left atrium
Left ventricle
What kind of blood does the right atrium receive?
Deoxygenated blood from the whole body
Why are the walls of the right atrium thin?
Blood only needs to be pumped to the right ventricle
Which blood vessels open up to the right atrium?
Inferior vena cava
Superior vena cava
Where does the blood which enters through the superior vena cava come from?
The upper body (head and arms)
Where does the blood which enters through the inferior vena cava come from?
The lower body (legs and abdomen)
Where is the right ventricle situated?
Directly below the right atrium
Where does the right ventricle receive blood from?
The right atrium
How does blood flow from the right atrium to the right ventricle?
Through the atrio-ventricular opening
Where does the blood go once it leaves the right ventricle?
To the lungs
How does blood flow from the right ventricle to the lungs?
Through the pulmonary arteries
How does deoxygenated blood become oxygenated?
It releases carbon dioxide into the lungs and absorbs oxygen from there
This happens through diffusion
What kind of blood does the left atrium receive?
Oxygenated
Where does the left atrium receive blood from?
The lungs
How does blood flow from the lungs to the left atrium?
Through the pulmonary veins
