Bones & Landmarks of the Forearm Flashcards
The lateral bone in the forearm when standing in anatomical position that lines up with the thumb. It has a slight bowing and thickens as you travel distally.
Radius
The disc-shaped, expanded portion on the proximal part of radius that articulates with the capitulum of humerus.
Head of Radius
The short, constricted portion on the proximal part of radius that is the inferior continuation of the head of radius. Located superior to the radial tuberosity.
Neck of Radius
The oval, elevated area found on the anteromedial aspect of the proximal part of radius. It is located inferior to the neck of the radius.
Radial Tuberosity
The sharp margin located along the medial aspect of the body of radius.
Interosseous Border of Radius
The blunt projection found on the inferolateral aspect of the distal part of radius
Radial Styloid Process
The smooth, concave, articular indentation found along the medial aspect of the distal part of radius.
Ulnar Notch of Radius
The palpable, small prominence on the posterior aspect of the distal part of radius.
Dorsal Radial Tubercle (aka. Lister’s Tubercle)
The medial bone in the forearm when standing in anatomical position that lines up with the pinky finger.
Ulna
The large, superior projection on the proximal part of ulna. It curves anteriorly at its top, forming a prominent tip which accomodated by a fossa on the humerus during forearm extension.
Olecranon
The large concave area found on the anterosuperior aspect of the proximal ulna that articulates with the trochlea of humerus.
Trochlear Notch
The broad, anterior eminence on the proximal part of ulna.
Coronoid Process of Ulna
The smooth, oval, articular indentation found along the lateral aspect of the coronoid process of ulna.
Radial Notch of Ulna
The large, rough elevated area found on the anterior surface of ulna. It is located inferior to the coronoid process.
Ulnar Tuberosity
The sharp margin located along the lateral aspect of the body of ulna.
