What does plasma contain?
A
Over 100 substances including proteins, ions, nutrients, gases, wastes

What does blood plasma do?
A
- Transports organic and inorganic molecules, formed elements, heat
- allows blood and platelets to be suspended allowing them to circulate throughout the body

What are the three major proteins?
A
Albumin, globulins, and clotting proteins/factors (fibrinogen, prothrombin)

What does Albumin do?
A
Maintains oncotic pressure and keeps water in the blood stream (thus regulates fluid volume)

What does fibrinogen and prothrombin do?
A
Helps prevent blood loss when a blood vessel is injured

What does globulins do?
A
Antibodies - help protect the body from pathogens
