Biological 6 Flashcards
What do hormones enable between cells
Hormones enable communications between cells hormones secreted by endocrine glands , hormone carried in the blood stream to specific target regions
What are the similarities between neural and endocrine communication
Similarities
Production of chemicals stored for later realease
Stimulate to release chemicals
Some chemical act as hormones and neurotransmitters
React with specific receptors
What are the differences between neural and endocrine communication
Neural communication fixed between channels to precise locations - hormonal signalling is more generalised
Neural messages are very rapid - hormonal communication slower and more prolonged
Neural messages are digitised - fire or not - hormonal signalling is analogue - more hormone the greater the effect
Some neural communication is under voluntary control - hormone release is not
What are the main functions of hormones
Growth and development Reproduction Metabolism Maintenance of internal environment Control of internal organs and systems
