B16.7 Adaptions in animals Flashcards
What are the most common adaptions for survival in animals?
Structural adaptions - shape/colour
Behavioural adaptions - such as migration
Functional adaptions - metabolim/ reproduction
What are some adaptions of animals in a cold environment?
Low surface area to volume ratio - reduces the transfer of energy to the environment and minimise cooling - by being very large
Plenty of insulation such as fur and a thick layer of fat
How can camouflage be useful?
Can reduce the chance of predators seeing you or prey of seeing the predator
What are some adaptions of animals in dry climates?
Functional adaptions in their kidney so they produce concentrated urine and need little or nothing to drink
More active in early morning and evening where there is cooler temperatures
Often have large surface area to volume rations and large ears to help them transfer energy to the surroundings
