ANATOMY (Pelvic Limb) Flashcards
Nerves
- Sacral nerve
- Femoral nerve
- Saphenous nerve
- Common fibular nerve
- Tibial nerve
- Obturator nerve
- Ischiatic nerve
- Caudal gluteal nerve
- Cranial gluteal nerve
Femoral nerve deficiency
-Inability to extend the stifle results in the inability to bear weight on limb
-There may also be a loss of sensation on the medial side of the limb (saphenous nerve)
Obturator nerve paralysis
-GAPE muscles
>GAP adductors so legs will adduct and can result in downed cow
Tibial nerve damage
-Affects the extensors of the tarsus and flexors of the digits. The tarsus drops and the animal cannot actively flex the digits
Common fibular nerve
-Effects digital extensors similar to low radial nerve paralysis in the front limb… results in knuckling over
Main arterial highway to hind paw
-L ventricle
-aorta
-external iliac artery
-femoral artery
-popliteal artery
-cranial tibial artery
-dorsal pedal artery
satellite venous highway from hindpaw
-dorsal pedal vein
-cranial tibial vien
-popliteal vein
-femoral vein
-external iliac vein
-common iliac vein
-caudal vena cava
Arterial blood collection in dogs:
-dorsal pedal artery
-femoral artery also used in CATS
