A. LAB (Extrinsic Muscles FL) Flashcards
Superficial Pectoralis: Descending O+I
O: First sternebra
(manubrium)
I: Crest of the greater tubercule of humerus
Superficial Pectoralis: Descending+Transverse A
-adduct the limb when not weight bearing
-prevent the limb from being abducted when bearing weight
Superficial Pectoralis: Transverse O+I
O: First 2 or 3 sternum
I: Crest of the greater tubercule of humerus
Deep Pectoral O+I
O: Ventral sternum
(deep abdominal fascia at caudal sternum)
I: -lesser tubercule of humerus
-greater tubercule of humerus
-crest of greater tubercule
Deep Pectoral A
-when limb advanced and fixed: pull trunk cranially
-limb not supporting weight: draw limb caudally and flex the shoulder joint
-adduct the limb
Brachiocephalicus O
Clavicular intersection
Cleidobrachialis I
Distal cranial border of humerus (including crest of greater tubercule)
Cleidocephalicus I
Cervical: median raphe of cranial half of neck, nuchal crest of occipital bone
(occasionally)
Mastoid: mastoid process of temporal bone
Brachiocephalicus A
-advance limb
-extend shoulder joint
-draw neck and head to side
Omotransversarius O+I
O: transverse process (wing) of atlas
I: distal scapular spine
Omotransversarius A
-advance the limb
-flex the neck laterally
Trapezius: cervical part O
-median raphe of neck
Trapezius: thoracic part O
-supraspinous ligament from T3-T9
Trapezius I
Distal scapular spine
Trapezius A
-elevate forelimb
-abduct forelimb
Rhomboideus: capitis O+I
O: Nuchal crest of occipital bone
I: Cranial dorsal border of scapula
Rhomboideus cervicis O+I
O: Median raphe of neck
I: Dorsal border of scapula
Rhomboideus: thoracis O+I
O: Spinous process of T1-T6 or T7
I: Dorsal border of scapular
Rhomboideus A
-elevate forelimb
-draw scapula against trunk
Serratus ventralis: Cervicis O
transverse processes of C3-C7
Serratus ventralis: thoracis O
First 7 or 8 ribs ventral to middle
Serratus ventralis I
Serrated face of scapula
Serratus ventralis A
-support the trunk
-depress the scapula
Latissimus dorsi O+I
O: -thoracolumbar fascia from spinous processes of lumbar and last 7 or 8 thoracic vertebrae
-last 2-3 ribs
I: Teres major tuberosity
Latissimus dorsi A
-draw free limb caudally (ex. digging)
-flex the shoulder joint
Cutaneous trunci:
-extends from gluteal to thoracic region and covers lateral part of trunk caudal to shoulder
-some fibers form the cranial preputial muscles in males
-some fibers form the cranial and caudal supramammary muscles in females
A: twitch the skin
Platysma
-extends from mid-dorsal raphe of neck to angle of mouth
-covers much of dorsal and lateral surfaces of neck and ventrolateral surface of face
A: draw the commissure (joint between bones) of lips caudally
frontalis
-lies over the frontal bone and temporalis muscles
A: protection of eye and mastication
