anatomy - muscular system - types of flexbility Flashcards
what are the main most basic types of flexibility?
Dynamic and static, and;
active and passive
what is the relationship between the group?
you can do dynamic OR static
AND
active OR static
(can do one of each group at the same time)
What is a dynamic stretch
it requires movement, usually involved going into a range of motion and out of it without staying.
Preferred in the beginning of a class / warmup
what is a static stretch
requires no movement, usually involves going into a range of motion and staying in the position for any amount of time.
preferred after warming up and can be great for cooling down at end of class
what is an active stretch
it requires going into a range of motion purely with the strength of muscles / usually against gravity
it can provide strength and control and long term flexibility
can be uncomfortable but also the safest form of stretch
what is a passive stretch
requires going into a range of motion with any kind of help, gravity, teacher, friend, block, belt or bolster etc.
Will generally relax both the muscles and the nervous system
