  1. medial - arch extends from heel to ball of foot (base of big toe to heel)
  2. lateral - arch extends from heel to ball of foot
    (base of little toe to heel)
  3. tranverse - arch extends across the foot from little toe to big toe

why are these arches important?

A

they are three points of connection with the ground, where the weight will be distributed

equally distributing weight through the three arches promote balance and stability for the feet as well as the chain of joints above it
