Anatomy - connective tissue & basic types Flashcards
What is connective tissue?
it is biological glue connecting all our parts together.
It fills spaces between organs and tissues and provides structural and metabolic support.
What makes up soft connective tissue?
- ligament
- fascia
- tendons
- catilage
what is cartilage
it serves to reduce friction and wear and tear from two bones rubbing against each other
what are tendons
a tissue that attaches a muscle to another body part (usually bone).
tendons transmit the mechanical force of a muscle contraction to the bone
what are ligaments
tough fibrous bands of connective tissue that holds bones together in proper articulation at the joint
ligament generally support and stabilise joints and ultimately restrict movement
what is fascia
fascia is everywhere in the body; it is a web of fibrous connective tissue found superficially and deep in the body.
what is myofascia?
deep fascia that encases muscles
