Aldosterone pathway Flashcards
1
Q
Stimulus for aldosterone pathway
A
ANG II, decrease Na+ levels, increased K+ levels
2
Q
What receptors sense the above stimuli?
A
Adrenal cortex receptors
3
Q
Response of adrenal cortex?
A
Release aldosterone into the blood
4
Q
Where does aldosterone bind?
A
Tubules in kidneys
5
Q
Effects of aldosterone on kidneys
A
Increases Na+/H2O absorption -> increases blood volume/pressure
Decreases Na+/H2O lost in urine ->decrease K+ in plasma
Principle cells in collecting duct increase K+ secretion -> decreases K+ in plasma
6
Q
Net effect of aldosterone?
A
Increase Na+ levels
Decrease K+ levels
Maintain blood volume
BP at homeostasis
7
Q
Feedback loop?
A
Negative feedback loop
