Aerobic And Anaerobic Exercise Flashcards
Where is glucose stored in the body?
Glucose is stored in the liver and our muscles.
What is the equation for aerobic respiration?
Glucose + Oxygen —> Carbon Dioxide + Water + Energy
How does our body get rid of waste products?
The blood absorbs the waste products and takes it away.
What are examples of waste products?
Carbon dioxide and water.
What is the equation for anaerobic exercise?
Glucose —> Energy + Lactic Acid
What are examples of anaerobic sports?
Weightlifting and sprinting
What effect does lactic acid have on the body?
Lactic acid makes your muscles ache and eventually causes cramp, and the muscles stop working.
When is lactic acid most likely to build up in a football match?
At the end of the game.
What is glucose?
A major source of energy for most cells in the body.
What is aerobic respiration?
The process of releasing energy from glucose, using oxygen.
What is anaerobic respiration?
The process of releasing energy from glucose, without oxygen.
What is aerobic exercise?
Working at a moderate intensity allowing the body time to utilise oxygen for energy production and to work for a continuous period, e.g. long distance events.
What is lactic acid?
A colourless acid produced in muscle tissues during strenuous exercise when the body is exercising anaerobically at high intensity.
What is cramp?
Painful, involuntary contraction of a muscle, usually caused by fatigue.
What are some examples of complex carbs?
Bananas, brown rice, nuts, potatoes.
