5.4 Active Transport Flashcards
Active transport
Particles moving at a rate faster than the rate of diffusion, stopping an equilibrium. Energy-requiring process
Selective transport
Membrane determines what molecules are able to go in and out of the cell
Bulk transport
Form of active transport, two types; endocytosis and exocytosis
Phagocytosis
Type of endocytosis, used for moving solids. Membrane enfolds material, forming a vesicle. Vesicle pinches off and moves into cytoplasm
Pinocytosis
Type of endocytosis, used for liquids. Membrane enfolds material, forming a vesicle. Vesicle pinches off and moves into cytoplasm
Exocytosis
Reverse of endocytosis. Vesicles, usually formed by Golgi Apparatus, moves towards and fuse with cell surface membrane, contents are then released
