Ophthalmoplegia/ nystagmus, ataxia, encephalopathy

Oculomotor dysfunction, gait ataxia, confusion, disorientation, indifference, inattentiveness, peripheral sensory neuropathy

Decreased red cell transketolase, MRI
Management of Wernickes
Urgent replacement of thiamine
What is Korsakoff’s syndrome
Marked memory disorder, from thiamine deficiency causing damage and haemorrhage to mammillary bodies to hypothalamus and medial thalamus
Features of Korsakoff’s syndrome
Anterograde amnesia, retrograde amnesia, confabulation
