Cause of NMS
A
Antipsychotic medication, but also can occur with dopaminergic drugs

When does NMS occur
A
Hours to days of starting an antipsychotic

Features of NMS
A
Pyrexia, muscle rigidity, hypertension, tachycardia and tachypnoea, agitated, delirium, confusion

What might blood results show in NMS
A
A raised creatine kinase, AKI might develop in severe cases, leukocytosis may also be seen.

Management of NMS
A
Stop antipsychotic, IV fluids to prevent renal failure, dantrolene useful in selected cases
