Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Flashcards
Cause of ARDS
Increased permeability of alveolar capillaries leading to fluid accumulation in the alveoli.
Causes of ARDS
Sepsis, pneumonia, massive blood transfusion, trauma, smoke inhalation, acute pancreatitis, Covid-19, cardio-pulmonary bypass
Clinical features of ARDS
Dyspnoea, elevated RR, bilateral lung crackles, low oxygen saturations
What are the investigations for ARDS
CXR and arterial blood gases
Criteria for ARDS
Acute onset, pulmonary oedema, non-cardiogenic and FiO2 <40kPa
Management of ARDS
Generally managed on ITU, oxygenation, organ support, treatment of underlying cause, prone positioning and muscle relaxation
