A
- Vasopressor
* Naturally occurring Antidiuretic Hormone

Vasopressin - Actions
A
- Potent peripheral vasoconstriction
* Alters the permeability of the renal collecting ducts, allowing reabsorption of water

Vasopressin - Indications
A
- May be used as an alternative to epi in adult shock, refractory VF, asystole & PEA
- May be useful for hemodynamic support in vasodilatory shock (eg, septic shock)

Vasopressin - Dosage/Route
A
40 units IV/IO x 1, may replace either 1st or 2nd dose of epi (may be given ET, but specific dose is unknown)

Vasopressin - Side Effects
A
- “Pounding” headache/dizziness
- MI or angina
- N/V

Vasopressin - Contraindications
A
- Conscious pts
- Chronic renal failure
- Responsive pts with coronary artery disease

Vasopressin - Special Information
A
- Potent vasoconstrictor, may promote cardiac ischemia
* Not recommended for pts with CAD
