Natural Catecholamine (both alpha & beta effects)

A
- On the Bronchi (Beta 2) - Bronchodilation
- On the Peripheral Vasculature (Alpha) - Vasoconstriction
- On the heart (Beta 1) - increases HR, increases contractility, increases AV conduction, increases irritability

Epi 1:1,000 - Indications
A
- Respiratory Distress - Asthma only (if pt is in severe distress and unable to use nebulizer)
- Allergic Reaction - systemic, acute urticaria/angioedema
- Anaphylaxis - respiratory distress, threatened airway, hypotension
- Asystole & PEA - via ET when unable to administer Epi 1:10,000 IVP/IO
- VF & pulseless VT - via ET when unable to administer Epi 1:10,000 IVP/IO

A
Respiratory Distress - Asthma only (if pt is in severe distress & unable to use nebulizer)
- 0.3 mg SC
- Use with caution if over 40 yrs, heart disease or BP > 150 systolic

- Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
- Ventricular irritability
- Tremors
- Anxiousness

A
None in the emergency setting

A
- Assess pt and ECG for desired effect and side effects
- Caution in pts with underlying cardiac disease or hypertension
- Caution over age 40, BP > 150 systolic
