Lasix - Actions
A
- Inhibits reabsorption of sodium chloride in the kidneys, thereby increasing excretion of water, sodium and potassium
- Produces vasodilation

Lasix - Indications
A
- Respiratory distress of suspected cardiac etiology (CHF)
* Transport time > 20 minutes, acute status, Hx of diuretic use

A
- 20 - 40 mg IVP, max dose 100 mg

Lasix - Special Information
A
- Potent diuretic with rapid onset of 5-10 min
- Prolonged use can lead to potassium loss, dehydration, hypotension, and cardiac dysrhythmias
- If pt is on diuretics, may need larger dosage to achieve desired effects - consider administration of double the pt’s PO dose
- Assess effectiveness by reassessing lung sounds, RR and effectiveness
