Zofran - Actions
A
- Precise mode of action as anti-emetic is not clear
- Blocks the activation of serotonin 5-HT3 receptor sites located in vagal nerve terminals & the chemoreceptor trigger zone in the brain

A
Prevention & control of uncomplicated N/V

Zofran - Dosage/Route
A
8 mg oral tablet, or 4 mg slow IVP (over 2 min) or IM

Zofran - Side Effects
A
- Headache or dizziness
- Body aches, agitation, dysuria, HoTN, & rash
- Shivers

Zofran - Contraindications
A
Known hypersensitivity to the drug

Zofran - Special Information
A
- Use caution in pts with bowel obstruction
* May precipitate if mixed with alkaline solutions

A

- 4 mg oral tablet for ages 2-12 yrs
- 0.1 mg/kg slow IVP (over 2 min) or IM
- Max dose 4 mg
