A
- Glucocorticoid (steroid) that suppresses acute & chronic inflammation
- Modifies the body’s immune response
- Potentiates vascular smooth muscle relaxation caused by beta-adrenergic agonists
- May alter airway hyperactivity

A
- Moderate to severe asthma/COPD
- Severe allergic reaction/anaphylaxis
- Croup

A
10 mg IV, IO, IM, or PO

A
- N/V
- Headache/dizziness
- Hiccups

A
- Known hypersensitivity to corticosteroids
* Known systemic fungal infections

Decadron - Special Information
A
- May cause hypertension & hyperglycemia
* Use with caution for pts on Digoxin (may increase the risk of arrhythmias)

- Refer to pediatric drug guide
- 0.3 mg/kg IV, IO, IM, or PO
- Flavoring may be used for PO admin
