Vascular Syndromes Flashcards
Anterior Cerebral Artery (ACA)
Contralateral hemiparesis and sensory loss with lower extremity impacted more than UE based on motor.
Supplies the medial aspect of the frontal and parietal lobes.
(Basal ganglia, anterior fornix, corpus collusm)
Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA)
Significant impairment edema and increased ICP. Contralateral spasticity, hemiparesis sensory loss with UE + face more than LE.
Broca’s + Wernickes area associated with MCA infarct.
Most common site of lesion.
Supplies: frontal, temporal, parietal lobes. parts of basal ganglia.
Internal Carotid Artery (ICA)
supplies MCA + ACA
Can lead to death
Posterior Cerebral Artery (PCA)
Contralateral sensory loss
visual deficits - agnosia
temporal region = memory loss
Supplies upper brainstem, midbrain, and thalamus
Lunar infarct
caused by infarcts within, smaller vessels of the brain and may result in: dysarthric motor aspects, ataxia, dystonia.
Vertebrobasilar Artery
Supplies cerebellum, medulla pons, and inner ear
locked in syndrome
