4.2 Flashcards
what is permissive hypertension?
technique that maintains a higher blood pressure used in ischemic strokes.
what is the maximum blood pressure that can be maintained post-stroke with permissive hypertension and without thrombolytics?
220/120
what is a thrombectomy?
how does it differ from IV tPA?
thrombectomy is used for ischemic strokes. surgical removal of large blood clots within arteries. should be done within 6 hours of stroke and only after TPA has been received.
differs from IV tPA because of time frame of when its administered. IV tPA - is given 4 1/2 hours after onset.
what is the risk of tPA?
can cause easy bleeding
blood won’t clot
what types of medications might an individual be placed on during and after stroke?
anticouglants
antihypertensives
anticonvulsants
antidepressants
neurotoxins
when is an endarterectomy warranted?
in more chronic stages after stroke (about 6 months is considered chronic)
endarterectomy - surgical procedure to remove fatty tissue from stenotic carotid arteries in hopes to decrease risk of another stroke.
what is aneurysm coiling ?
aneurysm is tied off or they fill it to prevent rebleeding, rerupture.
Antiplatelet therapy
decreases adherence of blood cells to prevent thrombus formation + may be used in addition to anticogulants.
