Provide the effects of a lesion in each respective functional area of the cerebellum.

A

Vestibulocerebellum – decreased balance particularly with the upright ataxial position and decreased coordination of eye movement with movements of the head.

Spinocerebellum – postural coordination, hypotonia, dysmetria

Cerebrocerebellum – decreased timing of movements and are demonstrated as decreased fluidity during tasks such as reaching.

What is the rebound phenomenon?

A

A test – patient is asked to move the arm against resistance. When resistance is removed arm should continue to move in the same direction and then go back to the starting position.

A

Disruption of the flowing sequence of movement components that should take place simultaneously.
