What does a Glasgow Coma Scale of 5 signify?
signify a severe TBI. A score of 8 or less indicates a severe TBI.
define post-traumatic amnesia.
It is the length of time between injury and time that the pt is able to consistently remember ongoing events.
what can occur if elevated ICP if not managed?
Brain injury can occur, along with brain herniations, seizures, coma and stroke and sometimes even death.
Differentiate between craniotomy and craniectomy.
-Craniotomy: a portion of the cranium is temporarily removed for a surgical procedure and later returned to skull after surgery.
-Craniectomy: a portion of the cranium is removed for a surgical procedure and it is not immediately put back after surgery.
