What is methylprednisolon for?
a corticosteriod drug used for the intention of decreasing inflammation within the body. Attempts to decrease symptoms of the attack.
What is plasmapheresis used for?
used when ppl do not respond well to the corticosteriod treatment
What are disease-modifying agents for ?
used to decrease future attacks
What medication is well known to treat spasticity?
oral baclofen
How can tremors be treated?
Tremors that limit the ability to participate in daily life can be treated with a deep brain stimulator that is surgically implanted
Neurogenic bladder
unable to control urine output due to the nervous system deficits related to the disease
What mechanism has been shown to be most effective in decreasing fatigue symptoms in patients with MS?
Exercise
Spastic Bladder
cause incontinence and abnormal emptying and may be treated with antichlongeic medication
Flaccid bladder
treated with crede maneuver - downward pressure is placed over the abdomen or use intermittent self-cathetsrization - 4-5 times a day
Uthoff’s Phenomenon
increases in body temp causes symptoms to worsen systematically: stop wait 24 hours (pseudo-exacerbation)
