Evidence of strength training
strength training exercises 6-8 weeks - improve neural recruitment and efficiency.
Weighted strengthening activities
increases bone density
Overload principle
muscles must be progressively challenged in order for strengthening to occur.
60-70% 1 rep max of the maximal load must be lifted only once to increase muscle strength.
task specific components
training effects are directly related to the type of training demands on the muscle.
Cross training
promotes various types of contractile muscle demands while preforming different tasks.
May not be beneficial at least immediately.
Reversibility
concept that if strength training doesn’t continue than the effects could be reversed.
