Characteristics of HELLP
- abnormal placentation ==> systemic inflammation & activation of coag/complement cascade
- platelets rapidly consumed ==> microangiopathic hemolytic anemia ==> liver damage
- hepatocellular necrosis
Complications of infectious mononucleosis
- EBV ==> IM
- autoimmune hemolytic anemia (2/2 IgM cold-aagglutin ab aka anti-i ab that are EBV induced)
- thrombocytopenia

- CSF profile:

- cryptococcal antigen positive
Tx of cryptococcal meningitis
- initial: amphotericin B w/flucytosine
- maintenance: fluconazole
Presentation of HSV encephalitis
- typically cognitive/personality changes
- focal neuro deficits +/- seizures

prefers to be loner, detached, unemotional
Avoidant personality disorder
avoidance 2/2 fears of criticism and rejection
Cause/presentation/tx of viral conjuctivitis
- adenovirus
- conj. inflammation + watery d/c + URI
- tx = warm/cold compress +/- antihistamine drops
Bacterial conjunctivitis tx
- erythromycin ointment
- polymixin-trimethoprim drops
- azithro drops
- fluoro drops @ contact lens wearers
Allergic conjunctivitis tx
- antihistamine drops
- mast cell stabilizer drops (e.g. olopatadine or azelastine) if frequent episodes
Lung infection risk in pt. w/TB
aspergillus infection ==> aspergilloma (fungal ball)
Electrical alternans characteristics and indication
- alternating height of QRS in anterior leads 2/2 swinging of heart from beat to beat
- indicates pericardial effusion
