What is hypospadias?

A

Congenital

Urethral meatus abnormally displaced to ventral side (underside) of penis towards scrotum

Might be further towards the bottom of the glans or even further down

What is epispadias?

A

Meatus displaced to the dorsal side (top side) of the penis

Foreskin usually abnormally formed to match meatus position

What is chordee?

A

Head of the penis bends downwards

How is hypospadias managed?

A

Paediatric urology for ongoing management

Do not circumcise until urologist indicates it is okay

  • Mild may not need treatment
  • Surgery at 3-4 months which corrects position of the meatus and straightens the penis

A

Difficulty directing urination
Cosmetic and psychological concerns
