A

Widespread, itchy, erythematous rash
Target lesions
Stomatitis
Mild fever
Muscle and joint aches
Headaches
Flu-like symptoms

How is erythema multiforme managed?

A

Diagnosed clinically based on rash appearance

Identify underlying cause

When should a CXR be considered in erythema multiforme?

A

If there was a recent cold sore or treatment with penicillin then you can identify the underlying cause

If no underlying cause CXR to look for mycoplasma pneumonia

How long does it take for erythema multiforme to resolve?

A

Mild, 1-4 weeks without treatment

Can be recurrent and associated with cold sores

Hospital admission, particularly if the oral mucosa is affected

IV fluids
Analgesia
