What is urinary incontinence?
complaint of any involuntary leakage of urine
What are the types of urinary incontinence?
urge; stress; mixed and overflow; ectopic ureter and fistula
What is bladder compliance?
ability of the bladder to keep its pressure unchanged irrespective of bladder volume and afferent stimulation
What does a cystomethogram measure?
urodynamics
What does a very high detrusor pressure during voiding indicate?
obstruction
What causes overflow incontinence?
bladder outflow obstruction
What are the symptoms of overflow incontinence?
huge palpable bladder; chronic retention; often wet at night; insensible incontinence; renal impairment
What are the symptoms of urge incontinence?
daytime frequence; small voided volumes; urgency; enuresis
What is detrusor overactivity?
bladder dysfunction caused by detrusor contraction occuring during inhibition of voiding
How is detrusor overactivity diagnosed?
urodynamics
What is the treatment for overflow urinary incontinence?
asses renal function; treat obstruction; catheterise; rehab the bladder; teach intermittent self cathetisation
What is the treatment for urge urinary incontinence?
dietary discretion; antimuscarinics; neuomodulation; entercystoplasty
What is the treatment for stress incontinence?
pelvic floor exercises- PT; stop smoking; weight loss; colcosuspension
What is the treatment for mixed incontinence?
must ask which is more dominant- urge or stress
When do vescio-vaginal fistulas arise?
prolonged obstructed labour
