Physiology 2 Flashcards
What do the kidneys convert vitamin D into?
calcitriol- the active frm
What parts of the nephron are found within the medulla?
loop of Henle and end of collecting duct
What is the blood supply aroudn the nephrons?
renal artery–afferent arteriole–glomerulus–efferent arteriole–peritubular capillaries–vein
What is the juxtaglomerular apparatus?
the area where the DCT passes in between the afferent and efferent arterioles
What are the 2 types of nephron?
juxtamedullar and cortical
What type of the nephron makes up 80% of nephrons?
cortical
What is the difference between juxtamedullar and cortical nephrons?
juxtamedullary do not have peritublar capillaries, instead have a vasa recta; have a longer loop of Henle
What is the inner layer of Bowman’s capsule?
podocytes
What makes up the basement membrane between the endothelial cells and podocytes?
acellular- GAGs and collagen
What type of cell make renin?
granular cells
What are the macula densa?
specialied tubular cells of DCT at the juxtaglomerular appratus
What is the function fo the macula densa?
sensitive to salt and release vasoactive chemicals to affect SM in afferent arteriole
What does the rate of excretion equal?
rate of filtration and secretion minus the rate of reabsorption
What is the rate of filtration equal to?
concentration of substance in plasma x GFR
What does the rate of excretion of a substance equal?
concentraion of substance in the urine x Vu
