Amotivation
Far end, no reason to engage in the activity, non regulated.
Extrinsic motivation
Divided in two, on continuum of regulation;
Controlled motivation
- External regulation; to receive reward/avoid punish
- Introjected regulation; To avoid guilt/shame
Autonomous motivation
- Identified regulation; For valued goals/objectives
- Integrated regulation; Part of one’s identity, the self
Intrinsic motivation
At the right end, intrinsically motivated and regulated
Coaches main goal
Internalizing motivation. Can be shifted inwards to get more to the right on the scale. Very challenging but important.
Self-concordance theory
Importance of determining if goals fit to themselves. Needed to internalize motivation. In contrast to OIT, SCT says types of motivation are not about regulation but the goal
