Q

DNA influence + 4 reasons why talent is overrated

A

DNA is not the blueprint to behaviour, lot of noise.
Multiple characteristics are needed for success.

  1. Nobody knows the ideal mix of traits you need (compensation is also possible if you miss one)
  2. Training is a. much stronger predictor of performance level than talent
  3. Just being talented isn’t worth much without motivation, persistence and interest
  4. Many promising talents never reach potential

Q

Experts vs Expert performers

A

Experts are called that based on social representation and knowledge on a subject. It’s better to look at performance as that’s a more clear indication of how it is now. Eg doctors who just graduated perform better than older, and human performance evolves

Ericsson: Assessment of experts should be based on perf.
