Types of Learners Flashcards
Cueing - Definition
Visual or verbal technigues, using hand signals or concise words, to inform participants of upcoming movements.
Varying Degrees of Learning (3 total)
- Verbal
- Visual
- Kinesthetic
Verbal Learners - Definition
Need to hear specific cues.
Verbal Learners - Guidelines - 1 of 4
- Cues should be specific ans succint
i. e. “four knees to the right”
Verbal Learners - Guidelines - 2 of 4
- Cues should be anticipatory
i. e. Must be heard and understoond before the move is imminent
Verbal Learners - Guidelines - 3 of 4
-Musical cues should be at least four counts before movement
Verbal Learners - Guidelines - 4 of 4
-Counting down 4-3-2-1 is best
Voice Care Tips - 1 of 6
Project from the diaphram
Voice Care Tips - 2 of 6
Speak at a normal volume when using microphone
Voice Care Tips - 3 of 6
Avoid frequent coughing (which stresses the voicebox)
Voice Care Tips - 4 of 6
Avoid cueing at biomechanically inopportune times
i.e. during push-ups
Voice Care Tips - 5 of 6
Keep music at a decibel level that does not require shouting over the music
Voice Care Tips - 6 of 6
Take small, frequent sips of water to keep larynx lubricated
Visual Learners - Definition
Need to see specific cues.
Visual Learners - Guidelines - 1 of 5
- Point in the direction that matches the cue
i. e. “lunge to the right” while pointing to the right
Visual Learners - Guidelines - 2 of 5
-Hold up specific number using fingers to indicate number of repetitions remaining
Visual Learners - Guidelines - 3 of 5
-Use Aerobic Q-signs (see pictures - 6 total)
Visual Learners - Guidelines - 4 of 5
-Use Visual-Gestural Communication and ASL signs (see pictures - 9 total)
Visual Learners - Guidelines - 5 of 5
-Cues must be visually logical and clearly visible
Visual Learners - Class Benefits (1 total)
-Assists participants who speak a different language or who are hearing impaired
Visual Cue Considerations - BENEFITS of Facing the Mirror (2 total)
- Gives the participants an easy understanding of movement orientation and directions
- Allows participants to follow exact moves
Visual Cue Considerations -DISADVANTAGES of Facing the Mirror (1 total)
-Personal connection with each participant is diminished
Visual Cue Considerations - BENEFITS of Facing the Class (2 total)
- Builds rapport with direct eye contact
- Allows participants to clearly see GFI without reflections
Visual Cue Considerations -DISADVANTAGES of Facing the Class (1 total)
-Participants have trouble following directional movements unless the GFI is mirroring.
Mirroring - Definition
The practice of an instructor facing the class while teaching movements so that the participants can make direct eye contact with the instructor and see a “mirror image”
Kinesthetic Learners - Definition
Need to feel specific cues.
Kinesthetic Learners - Guidelines - 1 of 5
-Cues should offer an element of sensation
Kinesthetic Learners - Guidelines - 2 of 5
-Words can be utilized like “sense”, “imagine”, “pretend”, “feel”
Kinesthetic Learners - Guidelines - 3 of 5
-Cues should convey a where and how a sensation should be felt or seen mentally
Kinesthetic Learners - Guidelines - 4 of 5
-Some cues can be given through a subtle touch with permission
Kinesthetic Learners - Guidelines - 5 of 5
-Some cues can also be provided with an open-hand with touching where the participant is directed to move towards
Guidelines for Asking Permission (2 total)
- Approach the subject as a group at the beginning of class
- Know the facilities policy on touching
