Types and explanation of conformity Flashcards
what is ISI
informative social influence
what is NSI
Normative social influence
what does ISI tells
ISI is motivated by the ned to be right so therefore when we are in an ambiguous or new situation we tend to look at others and copy them. Its also link to internalisation as we tend to change aer public views as well as private as people believe tats the propel know more then them. E.g if we go to a new school we tend to look at other students and copy as they know more then us about how they should actually act and we copy them so we can become like them.
what does NSI tells
it is motivated by the need to be accepted as we want to leave a favourable impression on others. We would like the group that we want to be accepted in to either reward us ( accept us) or punish us ( reject us ). It’s also linked to compliance as we are tend to change our public views but not private views. and it’s a permanent change. E.g if someone made a joke and everyone is laughing at it we might laugh as well even if we don’t find it funny.
what is identification
Is when and individuals changes their beliefs because they value something about the group its a permanent change and it only changes the public views not the privates views.
