why is the strength of NSI/ compliance is that its supported by Ash’s study.
because when ASH interviewed the participant after the experiment most of them said they conformed because they didn’t wanted to face any disapproval from the rest of the majority. When ASH asked participant to write down their answers on a piece of paper the conformity decreased from 36.8 % to 12.5%. this is strength because it shows tats conformity occurs because people don’t eat to face any dissaproval which support the claim of NSI therefore they study has hight internal validity.
why is Lucas investigation is a strength of ISI/ internalisation,
because Lucas at el found out that as the difficulty of the math exam problems increases more oftenly people started to conform and rely on each other for the answers because as they were put into a new and uncertain situation they started to doubt themselves as they didn’t wanted to face any disapproval from the group. This is a strength because it supports the claim of ISI which giver validity to it.
why is one limitation of ISI and NSI is that its unclear which one is the reason for conformity.
because Ash found out that when there was a dissenting participant conformity reduced because the dissenter had reduce the power of NSI ( they provided with social support) and the power of ISI ( they provided with the alternative social support). This is limitation because it so hard to separate them both as both process may operate in real - situation tighter and therefore it limits validity.
why is one of NSI limitation is that it cant predict conformity in very situation.
because some people are greatly concerned for being liked by others they are known as naffiliators they have a strong need for affiliation and MAGHEE AND TEEVAN found out participant that conformed more were nafilliators. this is a limitation because it shows NSI underlies conformity more then others and there are individual differences that can’t be explained by a single theory of situational pressure therefore they study lacks validity.
