MSM and features of each store Flashcards
who was MSM proposed by
Atkinson and shiffrin
what does MSM claim
is the stores are unitary and even if one of them is affected the other would still work as they are made up of different components.
who did an experiment to investigate the capacity and duration of sensory register.
sperling which was 3x4 grid where there where random latter and participant were asked to recall them first randomly and then row to row. it was found that the capacity is unlimited and duration is limited.
who did an experiment to investigate capacity of STM
miller who did a digit span test. participant were given list of words and were asked to recall them and it was found that the capacity of STM is 7+/-2 items.
who did an experiment to investigate the duration of STM
Peterson and Peterson - consonant trigram participant were asked to recall them but they were given intervals such as counting backwards from 3,6,9,12,18, and 30 seconds to prevent rehearsals. it was found one 80% recall of 3 sec, 8 sec for 10% and 0% for 30 sec as the duration of STM is 8-30 seconds.
who did and investigation to investigate the duration of LTM
Bahrick- male participants who had graduated form amarican high school over 50 years and they were asked to recall the one of their classmates from the highscholl year book. They were putted into 2 groups first photo recognition group where they were given a list of manes and they had to match the photos with the names on the list- 15 years ( 90%) and 48 years ( 70%) second it was recall group where thy were just given the photos and were asked to recall the names - 15 years 60% and 48 years - 30% which shows that the duration of LTM is lifelong.
who did an investigation to investigate the coding of LTM and STM.
baddely - he got British house wife’s and they were given a list of words and were asked to recall the words
semantically similar/ dissimilar and acoustically similar/dissimilar and people for LTM given a interval to do a task for 20 min.
who did the investigation for primary and recency effects.
Glanzer and Cunitz- participants were given a list of words and were asked to recall them. it wa found that people could remember the words from the beginning and the end sure to this effects and people alredy stores the words from these art of list in there LTM and from the ends from STM so therefore it was harder for them to remember the word from the middle. start - primary and end recency effect.
