lOC - resistance to social influence Flashcards
what’s LOC
its an individuals perception of the personal control on their own behaviour.
what are 2 type of lOC
external and internal
what do the 2 LOC tell
internal- show independent behaviour the believe their behaviour is due to their own personal decision and effort, they are confident in their decisions swell.
external - believes their behaviour is due to their fate, luck and other external factors.
which locus of control likely to resist social influence and why.
people with internal Loc because they are confident in what they are doing, they don’t care about other people opinion, they do their own research and make their own decisions. they have a positive outlook, are confident, and ahem high self-esteem and don’t need approval from a group or an authority figure.
how is the strength of LOC explanation is that t its supported by Shute research.
because Shute found out that people with internal locus of control were less likely to conform to their peer pressure on attitudes to drugs compare to the people with external locus of control. this is a strength a strength because it shows tats loc explanation is strong evidence therefore increase internal validity of the explanation.
how is the strength of LOC is that people with internal LOC are likely to show independent behaviour is very over-simpilistic.
because many researchers disagreed with rotter because they said an individual could have internal loc when they are having exams because they will be responsible of their grades depending on their effort. however, the might have external loc when it comes to their relationship of success in life because they might believe all of this his due to luck and fate. this is a limitation because it shows that loc doesn’t take complexity of human behaviour into consideration which then shows loc is weak evidence and will lack validity.
how is the strength of loc is that its supported by the research of holland.
because he repeated the same baseline study of milgram to find out if participants were internals or externals. he found 37% of people didn’t conform who were internals and 23% didn’t conform who were externals. this is a strength because it shows that loc explanation is a strong evidence there increases internal validity.
