what’s was the method of Minnesota study
the study was followed up from the participants infancy into their adolescence. 200 mother’s were viewed who were at the risk of parenting difficulties due to poverty. Assessment on care-giver relationships were made at both 12 and 18 months using the strange situation procedure. participants behaviour even the peer relationships continued to be studied into late adolescence.
what were the findings of the study.
children’s who were securely attached have rated highly in the social competence, very less isolated and more confident then children who were insecurely attached.
how is the strength of Minnesota is that its longitudinal research.
because the study was followed by the participants infancy regarding their attachment behaviour into their adolescence regarding their peer relationships. this is a strength because the designed does not have the problem of individual differences between the participants acting s confounding variables. which gives the study finding validity. therefore shows study is a strong evidence.
how is the limitation of the study is that it uses the same methods as strange situation assessing attachment.
because kagan found out that the temperament of the child is more important influence on child behaviour in strange situation. this is a limitation because the findings of the study might not be valid which shows the study is weak evidence to show that the early attahment influences the child behaviour.
