Topic 2- Plasma and memory cells Flashcards
1
Q
What are the two types of immune response?
A
Primary and secondary
2
Q
The secondary immune response is very quick, what does this result in?
A
the infection can be destroyed and removed before the pathogen population increases too much and symptoms of the disease develop
3
Q
When does the secondary immune response occur?
A
When the same antigen is found in the body a second time, the memory cells recognise the antigen, divide very quickly and differentiate into plasma cells (to produce antibodies) and more memory cells
