Tissue Organisation: Topographical Basis Flashcards
Somatic
Refers to body as a whole - walls of trunk + limbs.
Visceral
Organs within trunk + head and neck. Organs supplied by visceral nervous system/autonomic nervous system
What are the functions of skin?
Protection
Thermoregulation
Vit D synthesis
Sensory information about surrounding environment
Epidermal cell composition
90% keratinocytes
Also has melanocytes, Langerhans cells and Merkel cells.
Dermal layer composition
Sweat glands, hair follicles, blood vessels, nerve endings.
Collagen, fibroblasts, macrophages, adipocytes and elastin
Function of superficial fascia
Made up mostly of adipose tissue.
Stores water and fat.
Protects against mechanical shock (shock absorber)
Thermal insulation
Conduction - transports nerves and blood vessels to skin.
Function of deep fascia
Conduction - blood vessels are transported via fascias in neurovascular bundles.
Movement of muscle - muscles wrapped in deep fascia are separate and so can move over each other.
Forms capsules around organs and glands, kidney.
Serous membranes
The pleura
The pericardium
The peritoneum (around abdomen)
How is a continuous flow of blood guaranteed despite body position
Collateral arteries
What does the somatic nervous system innervate?
Walls of trunk, limbs
