Q

explain the formation of tissue fluid

(6 marks)

A
  • arterial end of the capillary has high hydrostatic pressure caused by the heart pumping
  • water and other molecules (CO2, glucose) move from blood to tissues ULTRAFILTRATION
  • the water potential of the blood is lowered as proteins and cells remain when water leaves
  • water potential of tissue fluid is higher than water potential of blood at venus end of capillary so water moves into blood by osmosis
  • excess water in tissue fluid moves into lymph and returned to blood
