active transport Flashcards
1
Q
explain how an Na+ is transported into a cell by active transport (6 marks)
A
Na+ ion binds to a complementary receptor on the specific carrier protein
inside the cell ATP binds to the protein
ATP —> ADP + Pi
causes carrier protein to change shape and open on the opposite side of the membrane
Na+ ion is released
Pi released from protein causing it to revert to original shape
ADP + Pi –> ATP
2
Q
what type of protein is involved in facilitated diffusion and active transport
A
carrier protein
