statistical testing Flashcards
why are statistical tests carried out?
to determine whether difference or correlation in data is significant or due to chance
what is chi squared used for
compare observed and expected data
what is students t test used for
compare means
what is spearmans rank used for
to assess whether there is a significant relationship
if the p value is less than or equal to 0.05
what does this means in terms of signifcance of data
if p value is less than or equal to 0.05 then the data is significant
this means there is a 0.05 or less probablity that data is due to chance to reject null hypothesis
if the p value is more than or equal to 0.05
what does this means in terms of signifcance of data
the difference is not signifcant due to mpre than 0.05 proability that data is due to chance
so accept null hypothesis
define null hypothesis
there will be no relationship/difference between the 2 conditions
