thermoregulation. Flashcards
what does thermoregulation mean?
control of the internal temp of the body.
what are the areas which you measure for heat?
in the mouth.
armpit.
anus/ rectum.
forehead.
ear.
what are the ways that you can measure temp?
thermal imaging.
clinical thermometer.
sensitive strips.
digital recording probe.
if your body temp drops below the normal core temp what happens in the body?
receptors detect a change. sends message to hypothalamus.
start shivering. increased respiration to generate heat.
vasoconstrict. reduce blood supply.
( done to reduce thermal energy transfer.)
if your body temp increases above the normal core temp what happens in the body?
receptors detect a change sends message to hypothalamus.
sweat produced. evaporates from the skin.
vasodilation. increase blood supply.
( done to increase rate of thermal energy transfer.)
