mitosis. Flashcards
what is mitosis?
type of cell division that produces new genetically identical cells.
what is mitosis used for in the body?
growth.
replacing worn out cells.
repairing damaged tissues.
asexual reproduction.
in human cells how many chromosomes are there and how may pairs are there.
46 chromosomes.
23 pairs.
how do we represent a female gene?
xx.
how do we represent a male gene?
xy.
how many unpaired chromosomes do human sex cells have?
23.
how many stages of mitosis is there?
5.
what is the first stage of mitosis?
interphase-DNA replicates.
what is the second stage of mitosis?
prophase- cells in pairs.
nucleus disappears.
spindle centre forms.
what is the third stage of mitosis?
metaphase- chromosomes line up.
spindle fibres attach.
what is the fourth stage of mitosis?
anaphase- chromosome pairs split and are pulled towards opposite poles.
what is the fifth stage of mitosis?
telophase- cells begin to divide structures towards poles.
