Darwin & Lamarck. Flashcards
what is the law of acquired characteristics?
1801 jean-baptise lamarack proposed changes which occur to an organism during its lifetime can be inherited.
explain why lamarcks theory for evolution was not widely accepted?
no evidence for ‘fountain of life’ and people didn’t like the idea of being descended from worms.
changes which occur to an organism during its lifetime are environmental only genes are inherited.
compare lamarcks theory of evolution with darwin and Wallace’s?
both theories suggest that al life has evolved from simple ancestors. however they are different because lamarcks believed that inherited characteristics can change during an organisms lifetime, darwin and Wallace suggested variation in characteristics is already present in the population.
lamarack- offspring could inherit characteristics acquired during parents lifetime, darwin and Wallace said only characteristics of organisms with a survival advantage are inherited.
